Google Analytics : What Is A Unique Visitor?
In my last blog post I stressed the importance of paying attention to your Google or web site hosting analytics. One very important element to keep your eyeballs on when reviewing your stats are your Unique Visitors. Many folks mistakenly think that a web site HIT is what they should be judging their inbound web site traffic on. A HIT is NOT an accurate depiction of how many visitors have visited your web site in a given time period. A HIT is merely an indicator of every file that happened to load upon an actual visit, so if you have 58 files that are loading each time someone hits your homepage, you will be receiving 58 HITS from that one visit.
A Unique visitor is just that. One unique individual (by IP Address) who hit your web site and frolicked through it. So, next time you view your web site stats, don’t be sucked into the number that says web site hits, focus on the unique visitor number for a much more accurate snapshot of what’s going on.
We’ll dig deeper into web analytics in the next few articles. Hope you enjoy!
