Doing IT The Old Fashioned Way.

A competitor of mine is doing a great job providing folks with SEO tools on her web site.  I am a huge fan of any web site that offers people useful free tools, she has a great variety and provides a very useful area where people can learn about SEO and what it can do for their web site.

With that being said, one thing disturbed me a great deal today.  On her web site was a Free SEO Meta Tag Generator.  A tool meant to automatically generate meta tags for each page of your web site.  Here’s my issue: meta tags can be a great useful resource to tell Google and the other search engines about your web site, they also provide much needed keyword guidance and show up in the SERPS (Search engine results pages). Having a tool automatically create them for you will NEVER put your best foot forward.  Each meta description and title tag should be hand crafted based on the content on that respective page, a robot, generator could never do that.  Also, meta tags can be a great tool to convey a marketing message, since they do appear in the SERPS, they need to scream to prospects, click me, call me today, etc.

Call me old school, but in my experience, doing things right in the beginning can reap fruit down the road. Taking the easy quick way out never seems to last.  SEO is part skill, part talent, part wordsmith.  No tool can generate that.
